Today I do alone what an army of servants accomplished in my great- grandmother's kitchen: I fe my family.
The servants provided for a joint family whose household was in constant flux -- where members would draw near and go according to their emergencys and whims. My mother discloses me that she and her cousins used to eat not upon of plantain leaves onward the floor of a protracted hall while her grandmother supervised. Since Great-grandmother was the wife of a high official in pre-independent India, each family meal was a feast.
