Preserving umbilical cord posterity at birth can save an Asian American
the pain of having to find a bone marrow match later in life.

In past issues I raised the fact that Asian and Pacific Island Americans
are at a terrible disadvantage if you or a family member is diagnosed
with leukemia, cancer, thalassemia major, or another illness requiring
a bone marrow transplant. Statistically, the unmatcheds of locating a matching
donor are poor for APIs and other minorities, since the majority of
individuals listed in America's bone marrow registries are white.
